Call of Cthulhu is a tabletop role-playing game of cosmic horror and mystery, published by Chaosium and based on the Cthulhu Mythos of H.P. Lovecraft. Players take on the roles of ordinary individuals—investigators—rather than action heroes, tasked with exploring strange, eldritch happenings, researching forbidden secrets, and surviving encounters with cosmic entities, cultists, and unimaginable horrors.

Unlike many fantasy RPGs, the game places a heavy emphasis on investigation, atmospheric dread, and a unique Sanity mechanic, where witnessing the unnatural often causes players' characters to lose their minds, with survival and victory being rare rather than guaranteed.
